Gate Research: Majors Lead a Broad Market Rally | Gate Expands TradFi Features

Gate Research Daily Report: On January 14, the crypto market posted broad gains as macro sentiment improved. Bitcoin surged before consolidating at elevated levels, while Ethereum outperformed and held around the $3,300 area. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index rebounded sharply from 26 yesterday to 48, signaling renewed risk appetite and a rotation toward higher-beta assets, while gold continued to climb. Among notable movers, BOT spiked on AI trading-tool narratives and speculative inflows; MFER rose alongside a meme-sector rebound; and ARRR drew attention amid a revival in privacy narratives. In this edition’s Alpha takeaways, we highlight Gate’s expanded TradFi derivatives offering with CFD access to a wider range of traditional assets, Wintermute’s three potential catalysts for a 2026 altcoin rebound, and Polygon Labs’ $250M+ acquisition of Coinme and Sequence to accelerate the rollout of its compliant stablecoin payments “open stack.”

Crypto Market Overview

  • BTC (+4.66% | Price: 95,448.6 USDT): BTC showed strong upward momentum over the past 24 hours and is now undergoing a slight pullback above $95,000. The short-term trend remains bullish but has entered a high-level consolidation phase. The MA5/MA10/MA30 are in a bullish alignment and trending upward, indicating a positive trend, though the increasing divergence suggests a need for a technical correction. After spiking to around $96,600 and pulling back, a long upper shadow formed, signaling clear profit-taking pressure above $96,000 and rising divergence. Considering marginally improved regulatory expectations, geopolitical uncertainty, and inflation hedging demand, BTC may switch between bullish consolidation and upward movement following high-level pullbacks.
  • ETH (+7.62% | Price: 3,329.9 USDT): ETH followed BTC’s upward move over the past 24 hours, rising from around $3,100 to above $3,400, then pulling back to consolidate near $3,300. The short-term bullish trend continues, though momentum is slowing. Geopolitical and inflation hedging demand, combined with L2 activity and staking inflows, support a fundamentally bullish outlook without signs of overheating. If ETH holds above $3,300 and gains volume, it may retest the $3,400–$3,500 range. However, it is important to watch for downside risk linked to a potential BTC pullback at high levels.
  • Altcoins: The Fear & Greed Index rebounded sharply from 26 yesterday to 48, showing a shift in sentiment from “fear” to “neutral.” As macro sentiment improves, capital is rotating into and spreading across high-beta assets. The overall market remains biased to the upside, but with growing divergence after a rapid rise. In the short term, the market is more likely to undergo bullish consolidation or pullback digestion before choosing a direction.
  • Macro: On January 13, the S&P 500 Index fell 0.19% to 6,963.74; the Dow Jones dropped 0.8% to 49,191.99; and the Nasdaq slid 0.1% to 23,709.87. As of January 14, 11:20 AM (UTC+8), spot gold was priced at $4,621.26 per ounce, with a 24H increase of 0.77%.

Trending Tokens

BOT Hyperbot (+126%, Market Cap: $1.84 Million)

According to Gate market data, the current price of the BOT token is $0.005655, having surged over 120% in the past 24 hours. Hyperbot (BOT) is an AI-powered on-chain contract trading terminal that integrates data and trade execution across multiple chains and DEXs. It helps users track smart money and on-chain whales, identify market signals, and execute intelligent copy trades with higher speed and accuracy.

The rise in BOT is largely driven by market dynamics and speculation. As an AI-enhanced trading tool, BOT benefits from the broader AI narrative and on-chain trading trends. Recently in the crypto market, similar AI-driven projects have attracted capital inflows. However, it’s important to remain cautious about the volatility risks of low market cap tokens, as they may face sharp pullbacks.

MFER mfercoin (+24%, Market Cap: $5.79 Million)

According to Gate market data, the current price of the MFER token is $0.003, with a 24-hour increase of 24%. mfercoin (MFER) is a memecoin based on the Base chain, inspired by the sartoshi_mfer NFT series. It aims to embody a relaxed, independent “mfer” crypto culture, emphasizing a community-driven and VC-free decentralized spirit.

The rise in MFER is not driven by any specific event, but rather by speculation and the broader memecoin resurgence. In the current crypto market, undervalued meme projects are attracting capital inflows—especially when major assets like BTC remain stable—prompting speculators to shift toward high-beta assets in search of alpha. In addition, short-term indicators for the MFER token show positive signals, such as rising open interest and increased volatility, which are drawing in short-term traders.

ARRR Pirate Chain (+27%, Market Cap: $110 Million)

According to Gate market data, the current price of the ARRR token is $0.53, with a 24-hour increase of 27%. Pirate Chain (ARRR) is a private, decentralized privacy coin and a key asset in the Zerocoin family and Komodo ecosystem. It uses zk-SNARKs technology to enable mandatory private transactions, aiming to provide stronger anonymity and security than Monero, while addressing potential issues faced by other privacy coins.

As a privacy coin, ARRR’s rise has benefited from the broader revival of the privacy narrative. In the recent crypto market, privacy assets like Monero and Zcash have seen gains, prompting capital rotation into undervalued alternatives such as ARRR. Additionally, community discussions have shown positive momentum, with narratives around zk-SNARKs privacy technology, fair launch without VC dilution, and resistance to financial surveillance attracting investor interest.

Gate Expands TradFi Contracts, Offering One-Stop Access to Diverse Traditional Asset CFD Trading

Gate is continuously expanding its TradFi functionality, now offering users access to Contract for Difference (CFD) trading across a wide range of traditional financial assets—including gold, forex, indices, commodities, and select popular stocks. These services have been integrated into the Gate App, extending beyond crypto asset trading into the broader field of traditional asset price speculation.

The service uses USDx (a 1:1 USDT-pegged unit fully backed by USDT) as both the margin and account display unit. When users transfer USDT into their TradFi account, the system automatically displays the balance in USDx without requiring manual conversion, and with no additional fees or custody charges. This setup reduces both the operational barrier and cost uncertainty associated with cross-market trading.

In terms of trading mechanics and risk control, Gate TradFi contracts closely follow traditional financial market standards: they operate within fixed trading hours and observe market closures, use fixed leverage ratios that cannot be manually adjusted by users, and adopt a cross-margin mode. Long and short positions on the same trading pair can be hedged based on lot size, with profit and loss settled at counterparty prices, and overnight fees applied during market closure. The overall framework aligns with mainstream CFD market practices.

Trading services are provided via the MT5 platform, with account data and trading records synchronized between the Gate App and the MT5 client. A forced liquidation mechanism is triggered when the margin ratio falls to 50% or below, effectively managing risk exposure. At the same time, Gate offers a clearer cost structure with low transaction fees (as low as $0.018 per order), leverage up to 500x for forex/indices and up to 5x for stocks. Coupled with promotional rewards, this encourages users to make multi-asset pricing decisions, hedging, and trades with lower friction—within a single platform.

Wintermute Identifies Three Key Catalysts for a Major Altcoin Rebound

In its latest report, market maker Wintermute suggests that 2025 has likely marked a turning point in the crypto market—from a “narrative-driven, retail-fueled bull run” to a new era characterized by “structural constraints and institutional execution dominance.” To break the current pattern of liquidity being heavily concentrated in top assets (BTC/ETH and a few blue chips), and to revive the broader altcoin participation and large-scale rebound seen in past cycles, Wintermute believes that at least one—if not several—of the following three conditions must materialize in 2026:

  1. Real expansion of ETF and DAT product lines. Regulatory and product innovation must progress further, breaking the current limitation to BTC/ETH only. The inclusion of more mid- and large-cap assets into compliant institutional investment vehicles would serve as the most direct and powerful engine for liquidity spillover.
  2. BTC and/or ETH entering a super bullish phase. The leading assets must experience a strong and sustained uptrend to generate a clear “wealth effect,” which could attract sidelined capital, traditional finance players, and hesitant retail investors back into the market.
  3. Mass return of retail sentiment. Retail-driven indicators—such as social media buzz, FOMO, viral narratives, and memecoin frenzies—must be reignited. Without the enthusiastic participation of retail investors, it’s unlikely that slow and rational institutional allocation alone can support a full-market rotation and broad-based rally.

Polygon Labs Acquires Coinme and Sequence for Over $250 Million, Advancing Regulated Stablecoin Payments

Polygon Labs has acquired crypto payment companies Coinme and Sequence for over $250 million, aiming to build an “Open Money Stack”—an open payment infrastructure that seamlessly integrates fiat on/off ramps, wallet management, cross-chain routing, compliance enforcement, and on-chain settlement. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of stablecoins as a global, instant, low-cost, and programmable settlement layer for payments.

Polygon’s strategy directly parallels Stripe’s approach to crypto payments. While Stripe first acquired stablecoin and wallet companies before building its own payment chain, Polygon started with a mature Ethereum Layer 2 network and is now acquiring licenses, wallets, and fiat gateway capabilities. By addressing the critical fiat bridging and user friction pain points, Polygon is transitioning from a pure L2 chain to a full-stack, compliant stablecoin payment infrastructure—positioning itself to capitalize early on the trillion-dollar payment market under regulatory tailwinds.
