The BNB Chain development team has confirmed that the BSC mainnet will undergo the Fermi upgrade. This upgrade is scheduled to begin at 02:30 UTC on January 14, 2026. Node operators must update to version v1.6.4 or v1.6.5 to ensure uninterrupted operation.
A key technical enhancement in the Fermi upgrade is the reduction of the BSC mainnet’s block generation time from 750 milliseconds to 450 milliseconds. By speeding up block production, the network will be able to handle a greater volume of transaction requests within the same period. This adjustment is critical for maintaining low latency as the ecosystem grows.
With the block interval shortened, BSC will achieve faster transaction confirmation and increased network throughput. These improvements will enhance the on-chain interaction experience for decentralized applications (dApps) and further strengthen mainnet performance under conditions of high transaction demand.

The Fermi hard fork upgrade represents a significant performance advancement for the BSC mainnet. By reducing block generation times, it accelerates transaction confirmations and boosts overall network throughput. Node operators and users should update to a compatible version promptly to ensure seamless crypto transactions and a stable on-chain experience. This upgrade marks a significant step forward for BNB Chain in enhancing its infrastructure to meet the demands of growing transaction volume in 2026.
